Grading Rubric

Daily Grade

Daily Attendance - This is a performance class, so you will be graded daily on your performance.

Assignments - Though you will not be given daily assignments and homework, beyond practicing, there will be written assignments throughout the year. These include music theory worksheets, practice logs, to teach and/or test your music knowledge skills and worksheets over opera and choral performances we will watch in class.

Concert Grade

All concerts and performances are required and are major grades. However, we understand that after school performances can be difficult for students attend all concert. If you cannot attend a performance you must email me at least 48 hours prior to the concert. The Fall and Spring Concerts  are the only exception to this rule. If a student misses the Fall or Spring Concerts they must make it up through a make up concert or a written exam.

Rewards and Consequences

Every positive point gained in Classroom Dojo will place students in the running for the choir prize. The choir prize is granted to the student who has the most dojo points after two weeks. The prize can include candy, small educational prizes, homework passes, or a free 100 to replace a low daily grade. You can gain points by being helpful to your fellow classmates, cleaning up not only after yourself but after others, being prepared for class, motivating others, and being a very positive and productive member of the choir.

Negative points, however, will adversely affect your grade. Because this is a performance class, our class product for grading is student participation. Negative points means the student is not participating, or worse, distracting others. This negatively effects the product of class and thus will effect the students grades. Every negative point will take 10 points off of your weekly rehearsal grade. Points will be taken for various offenses and are weighted based on severity. After 3 negative points an MIR will be written and a parent and guardian will be called.
